Amazon Prime Video boasts one of the largest on-demand streaming libraries in the world, featuring critically acclaimed original series like The Boys, Fallout, and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, alongside live sports and blockbuster movies. While watching on a phone or laptop is convenient, these cinematic experiences are best enjoyed on the biggest screen in your house.
If you are wondering how to transition your viewing from a small screen to your living room television, you are in luck. Amazon has made its platform incredibly accessible across a massive range of devices. Whether you own a brand-new smart TV, rely on a trusty streaming stick, or prefer to use a gaming console, this comprehensive guide will show you exactly how to get primevideo.com/mytv up and running on your TV.
1. The Built-in Route: Smart TVs
The easiest and most common way to watch Prime Video is through a modern smart TV. Most major TV manufacturers—including Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio, and TCL—either have the Prime Video app pre-installed or available right on their home screens.
Here is how to get started on a Smart TV:
- Connect to Wi-Fi:Ensure your television is connected to your home network.
- Navigate to Apps:Press the “Home” or “Menu” button on your TV remote and locate your TV’s application store (e.g., Google Play Store for Android TVs, or the native app hubs on Samsung and LG).
- Search for Prime Video:If the app isn’t already visible on your home screen, type “Prime Video” into the search bar.
- Download and Install:Select the app and hit download. Once installed, launch it.
Note: Older smart TVs (usually those manufactured before 2015) may no longer support the latest version of the Prime Video app due to outdated hardware. If you cannot find the app in your TV’s store, you will need to use a streaming device (see section 3).
2. The Universal Setup: Activating via Primevideo.com/mytv
Regardless of what device you are using, you will eventually hit a screen asking you to log in. Trying to type a long email address and a complex password using a standard TV remote can be incredibly frustrating. Thankfully, Amazon utilizes a “TV Everywhere” activation loop that allows you to use your smartphone or computer to log in.

Follow these steps to link your TV to your Amazon account:
- Open the App:Launch Prime Video on your TV and select “Sign In.” Locate the Code: Your TV will display a screen with a QR code on one side and a unique, 5-to-6 character alphanumeric code (e.g., L97ZKR) on the other.
- Grab a Secondary Device:Leave your TV on that screen. Pick up your smartphone, tablet, or laptop, open a web browser, and go directly to com/mytv. (If you prefer, you can just scan the QR code on your TV screen with your phone’s camera, which will take you to the same website).
- Log In to Amazon:Enter your Amazon Prime email and password on your phone or computer.
- Enter the TV Code:Once logged in, the website will prompt you to “Register Your Device.” Type in the alphanumeric code displayed on your television screen and click “Register Device.”
Within a few seconds, your TV screen will automatically refresh, bypassing the login page and dropping you right into the Prime Video interface, ready to watch.
- Streaming Media Players: Upgrading Older TVs
If your TV is not “smart,” or if its built-in interface is slow and clunky, a dedicated streaming media player is the perfect solution. These devices plug directly into the HDMI port on the back of your television.

- Amazon Fire TV Stick:Naturally, Amazon’s own streaming stick is optimized for Prime Video. Because you link your Amazon account to the Fire Stick during its initial Wi-Fi setup, Prime Video is integrated into the entire home screen experience. You won’t even need to log in to the app separately; just use the Alexa voice remote and say, “Play Prime Video.”
- Roku:Plug in your Roku, navigate to the “Streaming Channels” store on the left-hand menu, and search for Prime Video. Add the channel, open it, and follow the primevideo.com/mytv activation steps listed above.
- Apple TV:Open the App Store from the Apple TV home screen, search for Prime Video, click “Get,” and launch the app. You can log in using the web activation code or by typing your credentials with the Apple TV remote.
- Google Chromecast:If you have an older Chromecast, ensure it is on the same Wi-Fi network as your smartphone. Open the Prime Video app on your phone, select a movie, and tap the “Cast” icon (a rectangle with Wi-Fi waves in the corner). Select your TV from the list, and the video will beam directly to the big screen.

- Leveling Up: Gaming Consoles
If you have a modern gaming console hooked up to your television, you already own a high-powered streaming device. Both PlayStation and Xbox consoles support the Prime Video application in native 4K resolution.
- PlayStation (PS4 / PS5):Navigate to the “Media” tab on the PS5 home screen (or the “TV & Video” section on PS4). Scroll through the available apps or search for Prime Video. Download it, open it, and activate it via the web code.
- Xbox (One / Series X / Series S):Go to the Microsoft Store on your Xbox dashboard. Search for “Prime Video,” download the app, and sign in.

Tip: Consoles are fantastic for streaming, but if you are watching a live event (like Thursday Night Football), connecting your console to your router with a physical Ethernet cable will provide a much more stable feed than Wi-Fi.
- Wireless Mirroring and Wired Connections
If you find yourself in a hotel room or at a friend’s house and don’t want to log your account into their devices, you still have options.
- Screen Mirroring (AirPlay / Miracast):If you have an iPhone and an Apple TV (or an AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV), you can open Prime Video on your phone and use AirPlay to mirror the content to the screen. Android users can utilize the “Smart View” or “Cast” features to mirror their screens to compatible displays.
- The Trusty HDMI Cable:When all else fails, the old-school method still works flawlessly. Plug an HDMI cable into your laptop, plug the other end into your TV, switch the TV to the correct HDMI input, and open PrimeVideo.com in your web browser. Your TV will simply act as a giant second monitor.

Troubleshooting Common Setup Issues
- The Code is Expired:The activation codes generated for primevideo.com/mytv are temporary and expire after about 10 minutes. If the website rejects your code, simply back out of the sign-in screen on your TV, click “Sign In” again, and generate a fresh code.
- The App is Glitching or Freezing:If the app won’t open or keeps crashing, the easiest fix is to completely power down your TV or streaming device (unplug it from the wall for 30 seconds). If that fails, delete the app from your device entirely and redownload it to ensure you have the latest software patch.
- Playback Error / Low Quality:Prime Video automatically adjusts its video quality based on your internet speed. If your video is blurry, your Wi-Fi might be struggling. Move your router closer to your TV or switch to a 5GHz network if available.
